June 28, 2015. That’s 579 care bags for the homeless delivered on this 107th week. I made sure to visit the camp the Roger resides in this week. There were a couple of new tents here… Roger, Norman, Rocky and others have been here since before the winter. It’s just a matter of time before the city comes and discards all their belongings. June 24th, 2015 is the 106th weeks of making and delivering care bags to the homeless. The total is now over 573 care bags for the homeless of Logan Square, Chicago.
I couldn’t deliver the bags this week so I asked friends to see who was willing to do it. I cant thank Kimberly Kingen enough for her enthusiasm and making time in her schedule to deliver these bags this week. She went out of her way to pick them up from me and listened as I went on and on and on about the particulars. Thanks so much Kimberly!!

I won’t be able to deliver the 5 care bags I have to the homeless this week. Is there anyone in the Logan square area that would like to do this? I just couldn’t get it done today and will be working in the burbs all week. If you’d like to do this, I’ll make it very easy for you, I’ve got the bags all ready…there’s an opportunity here…Just message me and let’s work it out. Thanks! It would be great if this could be accomplished by Wednesday at the latest…
June 15th, 2015 is the 105th week of making and delivering care bags to the homeless. The total is now over 568 care bags for the homeless of Logan Square, Chicago. Each bag contains local assistance information, nutritious wrapped foods, fruit, snacks and toiletries.
I was recently told by someone I went out with a few times about her criticisms making these care bags and for the homeless themselves. She told me she had a real problem with me making these bags because if we got serious, that money spent on the bags could be used for personal use, for vacations, for dinners, etc. It was the most critical and selfish response I had ever heard concerning these bags, at least to my face. I’m sharing this to show what the homeless experience, much like any “group” that people don’t understand. I’m also sharing how I’m judging her for making these comments. I’ve been thinking about it all day. I try to not be judgmental but here I am…making a judgement about her. She said most of her friends felt the same way. It hurts my heart that people could feel so little compassion and caring for others, not seeing any value of being kind in this manner. I did explain I do a yearly fundraiser but that’s not at all the point. I know some people do in fact feel this way; maybe not so extreme but a version of this. Please feel free to weigh in on this because its hard for me to understand how people, let alone Christians could embrace this lack of compassion when the religion they are worshiping is built on specifically this. I’ve worked hard to have a “hive like mentality”. I want to contribute to this life in a positive way, I want to “do” not “take”. I want to use this life to better the people around me, not hurt them. I want to cause no harm. I believe this life of mine is in service of others; my business, my art, me…I cant see anything wrong with that rewarding, happy life. Its not easy all the time but what I gain from making these bags is understanding, compassion, empathy, connectivity, patience and so much more. I feel selfish for what I’ve gained personally from delivering these bags….I’ve learned so much…I just cant understand.

June 8th, 2015 is the 104th week of making and delivering care bags to the homeless. The total is now over 562 care bags for the homeless of Logan Square, Chicago.
Each bag contains local assistance information, nutritious wrapped foods, fruit, snacks and toiletries. Over the past 2 years I’ve gotten to know about 25 homeless friends in my community. I can only afford to make 5-7 bags per week and the people I deliver these bags to realize that. Its difficult but I try to not only make sure everyone gets a care bag every now and then but its most important to make a stop and say hello. care-bags.org, #ShareTheCare, #carebags
